Cleveland Golf Wedges
Cleveland golf, under the stewardship of founder Roger Cleveland, became known as one of the best wedge manufacturers in all of golf. They were the first golf company to offer a selection of different bounce options to retail customers, an option that had previously been reserved exclusively for tour players. Now that it is commonplace in the wedge market, the amateur player has a lot more choice when picking the perfect
(Read More)When trying to decide what bounce options you should go for there you should understand what the bounce is, and what it used for. Golf TV commentators can often be heard waxing lyrically about how a tour professional has ‘used the bounce’ superbly on a particular shot.
The bounce of a golf wedge is, in essence, the angle created between the leading edge and the lowest point of the sole. Used correctly it prevents the club from digging in even on the tightest of lies. The greater the bounce a wedge has then the further the sole of the club will be off the ground at address.
Higher bounce wedges are excellent out of bunkers and also when hitting from particularly lush or wet turf. If you are a golfer that tends to dig for the ball a little, often taking large divots, then a wedge with a lot of bounce would be a good pick.
Lower bounce options are a little more difficult to use effectively and therefore require more skill. With a lower bounce, it is all too easy for that leading edge to dig in resulting in an embarrassing duff that only travels a few feet. When used correctly though a low bounce wedge can allow you to play wonderful low checking shots from tight fairways. If you are generally a good striker on your chip and pitch shots, they can be a superb option, especially if you often play from firm and tight turf.
Mid bounce wedges are a good all-round option and can be used effectively from a variety of different surfaces. They are also fine to use from bunkers. If you are just starting out in the game, or you are not looking for anything specific from your new wedges then this style of golf club is an excellent choice.
Cleveland golf wedges have retained their position as one of the finest golf wedges on the market. They offer classic style bladed wedges and also an extremely popular cavity back range.
