Over the past few seasons, Cobra have cemented their position at the top table of golf club manufacturers following a string of superb product releases that were universally well received. Innovative technology, edgy aesthetics and class leading performance was an enticing mix that the golfing public could not overlook, making the release date of a new Cobra family of woods and irons a highly anticipated date in the golfing calendar. This year the iconic LTD name returns to the fold in the form of the Cobra LTDx family of clubs and, after having some time to test them out on our Performance & Build Centre, they are unquestionably going to be another enormous success for Cobra.
Cobra LTDx Driver Family
The LTDx range of drivers has three different models to choose from this year, the standard head (LTDx), the draw bias head (LTDx MAX) and the new low spin head (LTDx LS). The standard Cobra LTDx will be the driver that suits the largest number of players as it offers superbly balanced performance. Cobra’s design team have employed machine learning and CNC machining to shape their innovative technology, and this has led to the E9 face being replaced by a new variable thickness design named H.O.T face (Highly Optimised Technology). This explosive new face has been precision tuned to provide the ultimate in ball-speed, leading to significant improvement in the distance your drives travel. The clubface thickness has been optimised in fifteen different zones to help maximise the ball-speed regardless of where on the face the shot is struck. The Cobra LTDx driver provides a combination of power and forgiveness that has been hitherto unseen making it a highly attractive option for golfers of all handicaps. It is the first driver to achieve zero CGna and a 5200 M.O.I. which in simple terms means that this superb driver is both extremely long and extremely forgiving. At address the profile is slightly oversized and provides a confidence inspiring look that encourages long straight drives.
As with all the drivers in the new range, the LTDx driver features their new H.O.T. Face technology and replaces the E9 face from previous generations. The ‘Highly Optimised Topology’ face has been precision tuned for speed using data gathered from thousands of impact simulations. There are fifteen different zones across the club face with differing thicknesses which helps to maximise ball-speeds regardless of where the ball has been struck on the face. Cobra’s CNC machining has combined with machine learning to produce this completely new face which will provide a welcome boost to the power of your tee shots.
The multi material construction used in the construction of the LTDx driver has allowed Cobra to use 30% more carbon fibre than on the previous Radspeed model, creating a lighter and stronger chassis. Inside the head of the Cobra LTDx there is 19g of weight positioned in the PWR-COR and 15g of weight positioned at the back of the head which produces optimal CG (Centre of Gravity) location, low levels of backspin and supreme stability.
Cobra's H.O.T. (Highly Optimised Technology) Face
The Cobra LTDx LS Driver is a low spinning bomb maker that is ideally suited for the stronger players that require the lowest levels of spin to produce the maximum amount of distance. The Cobra LTDx LS driver looks superb at address, sitting behind the ball with a traditional shape that belies its maximum 460cc head size. The LS model benefits from a low and forward Centre of Gravity which helps to deliver extremely low spin and super-fast ball speeds, allowing you to channel your inner Bryson DeChambeau. It also features an adjustable weight system consisting of a 10g weight and a 3g weight. Switching the heavier of the two weights to the front toe will provide more fade bias, whilst placing the heavier weight in the front heel provides more draw bias.
In addition to the adjustable weighting, PWR-COR technology has allowed Cobra to position more weight low and forward in the head by using a 14g internal MIM steel weight. This is combined with a 5g external fixed weight which brings the total amount of weight forward to an incredible 32g creating the low spin, high speed qualities that this driver will become famous for. The aerodynamics of the Cobra LTDx LS driver produce less wind drag and helps the golfer to maximise their clubhead speed which can again lead to increased distances off the tee.
The final driver in the line up is the Cobra LTDx MAX which is their draw biased driver. For many golfers, each round brings with it a constant battle against the dreaded slice, with tee shots often veering off with alarming severity into the rough or bushes. Thankfully for golfers that have been cursed with this most unwelcome shot shape, the new Cobra LTDx Max driver has arrived on the scene to help cure it. Featuring both MAX stability and MAX draw bias, the Cobra LTDx Max driver allows the golfer to adjust it’s set up using moveable weight technology to achieve optimal results. When the 10g heavy weight is positioned in the back of the head the Ltdx Max driver plays at its most stable whilst still keeping some draw bias through an added weight positioned in the heel. When the heavy weight is placed in the heel of the driver it plays at its most draw biased setting, providing 11yards of slice correction.
Whatever your shot characteristics are, the perfect club for you exists within this stunning new family of drivers. I only had the opportunity to hit the standard head and I was simply blown away by the performance. I used a 10.5-degree head which is substantially more lofted than the loft I would normally play and as such I would have expected to see a slight drop in ball speed from my normal. Nothing could have been further from the truth as within four shots I had surpassed my normal average ball speed. I am now counting down the days until we receive the full fitting kit for me to test!

Cobra LTDx Fairway Wood Family
The new Cobra LTDx Fairway Woods follow the same theme as the drivers and offer the same three options to choose from. Visually they are equally as attractive as the drivers and offer similarly impressive performance. The Cobra LTDx fairway wood has a traditional shape that sits beautifully behind the ball at address with the carbon fibre crown framed nicely by non-intrusive graphics that run along both sides of the perimeter. The sole of the 3-wood does not have the rails that are associated with Cobra fairway woods whereas the 5-wood and 7-wood do. Cobra believes that they are only beneficial when the swing becomes steeper in the more lofted woods as this is when turf interaction becomes more important.
A 12g fixed weight sits at the back of the LTDx Fairway Wood head which increases the M.O.I. and forgiveness and ensures that the desired high launch is produced. When this is combined with the PWR-COR tech that places weight low and forwards the optimal combination of high launch / low spin and max forgiveness / max ball speed is achieved. The LTDx LS fairway wood has an adjustable weighting system that features a 12g and a 3g weight that can be positioned in either the heel or the toe to alter the trajectory and spin. The ability to make a fairway wood have more of a fade bias has been rare to see in recent years but placing the heavy weight in the toe of the LTD LS fairway no gives you that option. Something that will be welcomed with open arms by the better players.
The Cobra LTDx Max fairway wood is the most forgiving option out of the three available and provides plenty of help to the golfer on off centre hits. It has a traditional shape that sits beautifully behind the ball at address with the carbon fibre crown framed nicely by non-intrusive graphics that run along both sides of the perimeter. On the sole of the head there is an adjustable weight system that consists of a 12g weight and a 3g weight which can drastically change the playing characteristics of the club. When the heavier weight is placed in the heel the LTDx Max will play with the maximum amount of draw bias, whilst when it is placed at the back of the head it will play at its most forgiving.
Cobra LTDx Hybrid
The Cobra LTDx range of clubs is superbly rounded off by the release of the LTDx Hybrid which are their first hybrids to feature the acclaimed PWRSHELL technology found in their equally impressive iron ranges. This technology utilises an L-Cup face design that is forged from an extremely strong stainless steel which allows for a much thinner face to be used. The thin face can then flex more which provides faster ball speeds and higher launch at all points of the club face.
Aesthetically the LTDx range ticks all the boxes with a classy and uncomplicated view at address with the plain black crown nicely framed around the perimeter by unintrusive graphics. It sits beautifully behind the ball with a head size that is more compact than other hybrids on the market, allowing for greater versatility from a whole host of different lies. Cobra’s signature Hollow Split rails are once again to found on the sole of the LTDx hybrids and there is no doubt that they improve turf interaction and help to keep the club face stable through impact.
The new PWR-COR and H.O.T FACE technologies are also featured on this impressive new hybrid. The PWR-COR has allowed Cobra to use multi-material internal and external weights to reposition weight low and forward to produce lower spin levels whilst the H.O.T. Face sees the club face divided into different zones, with each one optimised to provide the maximum amount of ball speed. When these two technologies are combined with a fixed back weight, the result is an extremely long and forgiving hybrid that launches the ball high with low spin levels. The Cobra LTDx Hybrid is available from a 2-hybrid (17°) all the way through to a 6-hybrid (28°) allowing golfers to achieve the perfect gapping at the top end of their bag.

Cobra LTDx Irons
The Cobra LTDx irons have been re-engineered from the inside-out and this complex process has led the Cobra engineers to develop their PWR-COR Weighting design that allows them to strategically position the Centre of Gravity whilst adding face and body flexion to deliver the maximum amount of ball speed. This unique design features a multi-material construction that utilises a floating steel bar which is suspended in a lightweight, soft polymer and perfectly positions the CG directly behind the impact area. The soft polymer filler keeps the steel bar away from the body, face and sole of the club in order to allow the face to flex to the desired level. The polymer also supplies elasticity which increases the rebound effect and produces better energy transfer and ball speed.
The PWRSHELL Face Technology that was used so successfully on both the SpeedZone and RadSpeed irons has been enlarged and enhanced by using a L-Cup insert that varies in thickness. The thin area of the face has now been increased by an incredible 23% which will now produce the maximum ball speed on shots that have been struck some distance from the centre of the face. This means that mishits will now go a much more similar distance to shots that have been flushed out of the middle. The smaller the difference in distance is between good strikes and bag strikes, the lower your score will be. When the PWR-COR and PWRSHELL technologies are combined, the result is a game improvement golf club that has the potential to transform your iron play.
Aesthetically the Cobra LTDx tick all the right boxes for a game improvement iron. They have a relatively thick topline and a nicely proportioned oversized head that is not too large for mid handicapper and not too small for the higher handicappers. The profile is a confidence inspiring one that genuinely instils confidence when addressing the ball and the overall look is a premium one that also offers plenty of bag appeal.
The Cobra LTDx irons and hybrids are also available the One Length design and this should be given serious consideration when you are looking to upgrade your existing clubs. One-Length Clubs continue to grow in popularity as more and more golfers begin to realise the benefits of playing each club at the same length. With the same address position on each club, it can often be easier to build a repeatable swing with less requirement to adjust to a different club on every shot.
If you are the market for a new equipment that offers industry leading levels of both distance and forgiveness, then the Cobra LTDx family of clubs should be right at the top of your list. Cobra have been setting the golfing world on fire in recent years with some superb new products, and the Cobra LTDx range is quite simply their best yet..
